Safety is key in Little League. Umpires are responsible for checking each team's equipment prior to the start of games. Damaged bats, cracked or improperly manufactured batting helmets can cause serious injury to players. If your Umpire rejects a piece of your teams equipment, don't take it personally. The three-umpire system, when properly employed, is the most enjoyable system of umpiring. The two-umpire system provides adequate coverage for all but several situations that may arise, but the three-umpire system, when properly executed, insures greater coverage.
